Bangladesh's third airport is likely to operate ground services at HSIA

The ground-handling service of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is likely to be operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, two officials familiar with the development told the FE. According to a government plan, an international operator should be appointed for this vital operation of the much-talked-about terminal. A Japanese company earlier showed interest in doing the job, but the authorities are yet to sign any deal. The government has decided to launch the operation of the terminal by this October. Ground-handling service covers passenger and baggage handling, cargo and mail handling, whether incoming, outgoing or being transferred between airport terminals and aircraft, and ramp handling. CAAB chairman Air Vice-Marshal M Mafidur Rahman said, "We've decided to operate the ground-handling services through Biman Bangladesh Airlines for the time being."
